The Gaithers hold a very near and dear place in my heart. As a child, I can remember my mother listening to the and her singing her favorites and just belting out to the words. She loved them, and I loved to hear her sing! So when I was able to go to the concert and review it, I jumped at the chance! Who cares that it was 4 hours away!! Who cares that I had to drive over 300 miles one way to go see them!
That was the blessing in this. Getting to spend quality time with a very sweet friend of mine. Celeste is a person who is always giving back to our community. So I asked her to go with me, and it was all going to be my treat and let her enjoy someone pampering her for a change and being able to give back to her!
I received these tickets from Family Christian Stores in exchange for a few social network shares which you can find on my Instagram, Twitter and Facebook (Links at the bottom) There are MANY other opportunities throughout the nation to see them during the upcoming year and you can check that out HERE.
So about the concert.
Kevin Williams, the band’s guitar player started us out with a couple of old sing-along hymns. we were in a church that holds about 2500 seats. Imagine an old-time gospel singing with a new technological twist on it. It was AMAZING!!! Jesus had definitely made His place into the venue! What an amazing time of praise and worship we had!
We had seats on the Mezzanine floor and had a perfect view to the front of the stage. I mean, 50 yard line, center stage, center church, perfect seating! Here is a look at my view.
That’s Kevin on Stage.
Next Bill Came out and introduced Charlotte Ritchie and then Gene McDonald, after singing How Great Thou Art by Himself. Oh my, I just love Bill Gaither’s voice! To hear him singing that old hymn, and have that many people singing along with him, just fantastic! God is so great!!!
Then he introduced the rest of the Gaither Vocal Band, which consist of David Phelps, Wes Hampton, Adam Crabb, Todd Suttles and Matthew Holt on Piano and Greg Ritchie on Drums and I never DID get the fiddler’s name and that was frustrating because he was INCREDIBLE!!! To hear these 5 men sing in harmony all the new songs they sang and the old ones that are near and dear to my heart, I went into a whole different phase of Worship with our Lord! What a blessing we had!
They all were!!!
I had the best time, as did my friend. We enjoyed the music, the comedic banter between Kevin and Bill and just the overall performance. It was a very worship-filled treat for us.
After the group came on and sang some new songs, then David sang an operatic tune,
We took an intermission, then came back to a medley with all performing the old songs from the Gaithers like
He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands
Jesus is With Me When The Storm Comes
He Touched Me
There’s Just Something About That Name
They sang a prayer song which Gloria and Bill wrote for their children, called Shepherd, then more oldies like I believe In A Hill Called Mount Calvary
Then Charlotte and David backed up by the group, sang Go Rest High On That Mountain. This song is so special to me because it was sang at my daddy’s funeral and was so fitting for his life. Brought me to tears.
Each vocalist sang a song that highlighted their talents, so that was an enjoyable to hear them in their own element and featuring their God-given gifts.
Each song, touched my heart in either of a few ways,
1) Because of my mother,
2) Because they are just flat-out amazing
3) To hear the reasons the songs came to be, or a story that went with the song.
It was just a really, super, worship-filled night
The staff at the church was so helpful and so kind as well as all the staff at the hotel we were at.
Thank you Family Christian Stores for an amazing night out with the Gaithers.
If you get the chance. You need to go see them! Who ever imagined, that an old-time gospel group could bring such a very entertaining concert. However, I KNEW that God was in that place and He was praised.
I left with a heart full of worship and special night of the Gaithers and the memories that their songs bring to my heart and then the very special memories that some songs brought because of the way they intermingled in my life experiences.
