The Advocate – Randy Singer and a Giveaway

This book has many rave reviews.  I mean serious rave reviews I wanted to love the book, and as I did read it, going into it, the first 5 chapters, Part 1, The Student, I loved.  Understood and could follow.  Then, for me, it started getting difficult for me to understand and I’m not sure if it was difficult, or I just didn’t like the book.    I am very ADD and when I read the book, I was thoroughly confused.  What irks me about all of this, is even though this is a fictional book about an advocate who his first trial,

Altered the course of history and his last, will change the fate of an empire. (Direct quote from the back cover)

Okay about the book.  I made it to chapter 25 before I just couldn’t understand anymore about where I was in the story, or who the majority of the players were.

Now I got to the part where Christ was presented before Pilate after his night of being found guilty by Herod.

For me, I was not going to finish the book and knew this after about 5 chapters.  I tried to go further into the book but just couldn’t.  However, please do NOT let this deter you from the book.  Regardless of my review, for a normal reader that loves Christian Historical Fiction, this book should be a great read.  One that touches your heart and one that just draws you in from the get-go.

Had I had a map, something in writing with the characters and how they’re related (there was a list in the front of the book, for me it wasn’t enough.  Enjoy this book, know that it has huge responses and has extreme rave reviews.

The author has a study guide and a 4 week course on his website.

Book Description

Since I can’t review the book, here is the description of the book and the details

Follow what law and legal representation was like in biblical times with Randy Singer’s Christian historical fiction Advocate: He Defied an Empire & Inspired a Faith.

At the trial of Christ, Theophilus, brilliant young “assessore” raised in the Roman aristocracy, stands behind Pontius Pilate and whispers, “Offer to release Barabbas.” The strategy backfires, and Theophilus never forgets the sight of an innocent man unjustly suffering the worst of all possible deaths–Roman crucifixion.

Three decades later, Theophilus has proven himself in the legal ranks of the Roman Empire. He has survived the insane rule of Caligula and has weathered the cruel tyrant’s quest to control the woman he loves. He has endured the mindless violence of the gladiator games and the backstabbing intrigue of the treason trials.

Now he must face another evil Caesar, defending the man Paul in Nero’s deranged court. Can Theophilus mount a defense that will keep another innocent man from execution? The advocate’s first trial altered the course of history. His last will change the fate of an empire.

Randy Singer has a 4 Week teaching program with a study guide on his website and you can find that here

There is also an author Question and Answer interview and you can find that here.

Family Christian – Family Values and Valentine’s Day

hey everyone, Mercy Rule is on sale at Family Christian Stores.   You can check this out here

check it out.  Family Christian is making their DVDs available for Valentine’s Day so that everyone can have a chance to purchase them so reasonably for that perfect Valentine’s Day Gift

this movie is one of those movies that you can just sit down, and watch for a quick pick me up, if you look at the content, instead of being a

critic of the way the movie was made etc.

CAMFAM made a full disclosure at the beginning of the movie stating

“Our family is always on the lookout for an exciting new movie to watch together on ‘movie night.’ We look for something fun and inspiring, something that builds our faith in God and our strength as a family. But instead of waiting for a great new movie, we made one! Mercy Rule is one the most exciting movies we have ever been a part of and we are so excited to share it with you.” – Kirk and Chelsea Cameron

The movie tells the

1. Moral and ethical struggles of a family and business.

2. A young boy’s moral and ethical struggle of his place on his baseball team.

3.   A marriage and the moral and ethical struggle that is found daily in a marriage where partners struggle every single day to fight off Satan’s toehold.

That being said, I LOVED the character of Pops even though he was not visible, he was a very important character of the movie. I have taken some of the things he said and

actually journaled them! Pretty awesome insight.

“Winning is not as important as fighting on the right side.” – Pops

“You got a problem with someone? Doesn’t matter who they are, you man up and go eye to eye.” Pops

My favorite quote from the movie, while not from Pops, is this

“You should always want the best guy out there, even if it isn’t you.” – Coach

isn’t that so true.  To do anything well, you MUST be a team player.

You can purchase the DVD here, or try to win one below!!

I was very pleased with the aspect of this movie based on Kirk’s disclaimer right at the beginning, that this was something his family did, because they couldn’t find

something to watch as a family.

While I agree, that it is a basically clean movie, the references to smoking and alcohol would be something I would have to explain to the littles of our crew. The older crew

would get it, and understand that talking about it and doing it are two totally different things,

This movie was not a movie to bring people to Jesus, it was a movie made for a clean activity for a family and this fits that guideline except for the two things I mentioned.

The story line presents a family in need of re-evaluating their own morals and ethics after Satan has attacked them in different ways. Their ways of handling things are so structured, almost exactly alike, it would have been neat to seen two different points of view, but that may have been confusing in a 90 minute movie also.

The DVD also includes a small question and answer booklet and that was great seeing the “behind the thoughts of the making of the movie”

So for me and my family, based on the fact that it was made for a “clean entertainment” I was pleased with this movie and will show it to the older crew of my bunch. Thank

you again for your faithfulness to family
