Stepping On Cheerios

Stepping-On-Cheerios_small

Family life is beautiful and motherhood is a privilege, but it ain’t no picnic!

Being a mother isn’t easy. Sometimes it’s hard to experience a personal connection with God and community when you are caught up in the chaos of just “doing family”.

Independent and self-sufficient, author Betsy Singleton Snyder lived a full and busy life as a pastor, missionary, and wife to a husband who served in the U.S. House of Representatives. She had her first child at age 44, then at 47, she found out she was carrying triplets. Suddenly finding herself overwhelmed is an understatement.

Stepping on Cheerios is a collection of funny, warm, and charming tales from the frontlines of parenthood, written for women who are juggling to accomplish everyday feats of work, motherhood, marriage, church, and more. It’s a comical story of one woman’s realization that her crazy life is a gift and how she found the grace in it.

My Review

when I first started reading Stepping on Cheerios, I didn’t like the book at all.

When I read further I realized that what i didn’t like was the preachiness.

If you are able to get past that, you are left with a great little devotional, a lot of comedy and some new parenting skills.

Add into that some different viewpoints on The Bible that maybe you hadn’t seen

Overall, I give this book 3 Stars. Preachiness sometimes is a good thing because the words are all God talking, if you take the time to listen

Mornings With Jesus #FCBlogger

mwj-2016_3d_flat_1_1

As I was looking through this book when I first received it, I was thinking to myself, how on earth will I write 200 words on a devotional that I don’t want to read ahead because it is a devotional for all of 2016.  It goes by months, then it’s broken down by day.

Each Day you get 366 Devotionals (2016 is a Leap Year) Each day is broken down by a scripture verse,  the devotional, which is each author’s personal reflection, then with a Faith Step.

The devotionals are written by 10 amazing authors:

Susanna Foth Aughtmon
Gwen Ford Faulkenberry
Grace Fox
Tricia Goyer
Sharon Hinck
Rebecca Barlow Jordan
Erin Keeley Marshall
Dianne Neal Matthews
Cynthia Ruchti
Suzanne Davenport Tietjen

So I thought that I would take each month, read the first day, the middle and the end.  I was so surprised at the depth that one author could go, with one day and one page.  Jesus promise is very clear:  Peace I leave with you:  my peace I give you.  I do not ive to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.  (John 14:27 NIV) isn’t that an incredible promise?

Each devotionals that I have read so far, has that promise in it.  These have me so encouraged to read through the devotional through next year..

This devotional can be purchased at Family Christian® Storesas well as many other Devotionals.  You can check those out here Family Christian Stores Daily Devotionals

{More about A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn}

A Wedding at the Orange Blossom Inn (Avon Inspire, September 2015)

A wedding brings together two young widowed parents . . . and gives them a second chance at love.

Emma Keim was heartbroken when her husband, Sanford, passed away, leaving her to raise three young daughters alone. Though several years have passed, her relatives have made it no secret that they expect Emma to remain a widow, mourning Sanford indefinitely. But when she meets Jay Hilty—a handsome widower with three young sons of his own—Emma is delighted to have a new friend who understands her struggles. Still, she is dismayed that her family is so opposed to their friendship—and the idea of it ever becoming anything more. She honors her husband’s memory every day, but is she destined to be alone forever?

Emma’s gentleness with Jay’s boys stirs something in his heart that’s been quiet for far too long. But when his oldest son becomes engaged to a local woman, suddenly Jay, Emma, and their children are swept up in wedding preparations. Witnessing his son’s joy, Jay wonders if it’s time for him to move forward, too, and find happiness again.

Once again, love has come to Pinecraft. But can these two parties of four become a happy, healthy family of eight?

My Review

Brady Bunch Meets the Amish Country.
Or something like that!
Emma is a widow with three girls
Jay a widower with three boys!. Between them they have so many friends and relatives that it is a full house all the time!!

Oh and a precocious pup named Frankie!  Who was an escape artist and a food thief!!

The thing they have most of is God and Love!  Who can ever have too much of either!

As their courtship blossoms they learn fast and hard that with a family this big, a town as small as they live in.
Everyone knows everything about everything.

Frankie does his escape artistry one day during one if the biggest events of the year and Emma is devastated, embarrassed and unwilling to go back to the event because Frankie has ruined everything.

Or has he.

Go check out Wedding At Orange Blossom Inn and fi d out how Frankie’s catastrophes change Emma and Jay’s lives as well as the kids.

Great Little Book About Teaching Children About Anger

511ymVhT0ML._SX398_BO1,204,203,200_

Teaching Christs Children about Feeling Angry is written from a child’s point of view, which makes it oh so much easier to be able to say “let’s read this”

Hyman brings practical daily use, Bible Verses and an easy to read format to help children understand that being angry is okay, sinning while we are angry is not.

Anger 1

Teaching Christ’s Children about Feeling Angry, while the title implies it is for Christians only, gives extremely great common advice for anyone.  Not just Christians.  This is the only thing I do not like about the book.  To me, the title excludes some children.  Even though we are all children of God, someone who has never read the Bible could interpret this title to say “not me”

I know that isn’t what Hyman wanted or is saying.  With great illustrations, and following a series of books by Hyman, I love the content of the book and think the title needs work!

Righting a Wrong – Book Review

51g-t7HgkIL._SS300_

Righting a Wrong
By Rachael Anderson
Cambri Blaine makes her way home after 6 years of running.
Her mother had passed away and she ran from memories of her mother and from her best friend.
After her father, Harvey Blaine had a heart attack, she ended back up at Bridger. Back home to a father that was very angry with her leaving, angry that her mother died, angry about his heart attack. So angry that he just destroyed her mom’s beautiful garden and yard. So angry that he made barbs at her as she entered the door and make her very aware that he was hurt by her being gone for 6 years. Angry that he missed her and very scared to show her.
Jace Sutton, stuck in Bridger, their hometown, because of family circumstances. Being in Bridger, Jace was face to face with his own memories of failed love, and a friend’s betrayal.
Cambri and Jace were best friends growing up, however, they both avoided their feelings for each other.
Cambri would be in Bridger for a while s running into Jace was a given. When she finally did, old feelings came rushing back, but she dare not say anything.
Cambri, determined to help her father while she was there. Since she was a landscape artist by trade, she was also determined to rebuild her mother’s yard back to its former glory.
In doing so, she then realized that Jace owned the store and would have to be seeing him .
However, Jace made other plans and decided to help her. Just like he had helped Harvey while she was gone.
So was it destiny, was it the will of Jace wanting to be around her, or just Jace feeling sorry for her, that made him spend the week, helping her with her mother’s yard?
During this time of taking care of her dad, she also came to realize that she was wrong all those years ago. She loved Jace.
After several weeks of avoiding the past with Jace, it was truly a ripple effect of, her father, Jace’s Grandfather, Jace’s sister Lydia, fate, life, and every feeling she ever had that complicated life so much before came surfacing back.
On the weekend before she was to leave, Jace asked her to dinner and Cambri soon realized it was a goodbye dinner. Had she just managed to fall in love again with someone who was going to reject her. Again.
Would they ever right the wrong that was done so many years ago? Would they quit running from each other? With the waves of each new memory will they make their way back to each other or lose each other forever and never right the wrongs done so many years ago.

A Christmas Miracle Comes to Holy Nativity – Book Review

_80_140_Book.1233.cover

Ken Regan has a great story-line here and weaves a very good story, only it lacks depth and finesse. The premise is that the pastor who has failed at several assignments gets one last chance. Holy Nativity Church. During the time he is there, they realize the church is broke and to continue they must raise enough money. Add in a love story with the token single mom and the church-members that are very negative and you have a story found in any town in any church…
Even though I found this book to be just like every other romance book around, it does have its moments. It is fun and filled with moments of laughter, also moments of great insight. I just didn’t find it consistent with either..
If the book had been just a bit longer and had a bit more time to develop[, I believe this could have been a fantastic little book!
