When a water vessel is filled with dirt and stones, it cannot be used to quench a thirst.

But, when this vessel is emptied, there is an opportunity to fill it until it overflows with fresh, cool, life-giving water. Come-Empty-242x384Water that quenches. Refreshes. Soothes.

Our souls are the same: filled with fear, doubt, and disappointment. Running over with unanswered prayers and lingering questions. When we empty the mess of our lives in the presence of God, we’re offered an invitation to come. An invitation that allows us to come empty – so that we can be filled until we overflow.

Come Empty: Pour Out Life’s Hurts and Receive God’s Healing Love guides you through fifty days of experiencing the fullness of God’s love and His ability to overcome life’s hurts. My Review

Goodness

Where to start!

as I started this book, I will admit, I was thinking, oh wow, another, run of the mill devotional, saying the same old things, with the same old verses, using the same old context.  blah, blah, blah.

Boy was I in for a surprise! Dr Smith just totally knocks this one outta the park for me.  Having so many chronic conditions this devotional just fit right there for me.

The very first chapter, Dr. Saundra Dalton Smith speaks of how pain directly alters our life.  our daily walk literally and figuratively.  Our mood, our emotions, our mind, everything.

If you feel bad, you look bad, you are bad.  So you will be bad.

Therefore I am bad.

That vicious cycle you get in when you

1) not only have constant pain,

2) are depressed,

3)are just having a super rotten day

Smith gives you several ideas to cope with your daily walk with pain as well as coping with topical indexes of different issues you might feel on any given day like Difficult People, Fear, Envy, Regret, Stress, Suicide and Surgery and So many more topics.

9 Writers to Read #FCBlogger

298956

Doug Wilson. in 9 Writers to Read Nine Names That Belong On Your Bookshelf, tries to convey two very distinct things.

1) he loves C S Lewis
2) for you to put his book down when you are finished and start reading the writers he recommends and each book he recommends.

      These 9 Writers are:
            1). G E Chesterton
            2).  H L Mencken
            3).  P G Woderhouse
            4).  T S Eliot,
            5).  J R R Tolkien
            6).  C S Lewis
            7).  R F Capone
            8).  M S Robinson
            9).  N D Wilson

These are clearly 9 very fantastic authors.   I agree these are a very select group of authors.
Ones that I also believe everyone should read.
This author’s explanations for why they should be read are very thorough and extremely intense.
I had to sit with a dictionary at the ready.   His descriptions, while very thorough were also, way above my pay grade 😯😯
There were MANY words I Had to look up, just to make sure I was on the same page as him literally!
So for me, loved the content
I didn’t like the delivery

The book still had great content and was just fantastically written,  There are 100’s of other authors that I would include in this list of people you just NEED to read, however the limits of this book were 9 writers

So I urge you to read this book, if you are not familiar with any of these authors.  The way I feel, just read and you can buy all of your books at Family Christian!  Here is a link that will show you just what types of books you can get at Family Christian!
